Learning about Guatemala

On Saturday (March 14) we had our fourth team meeting when we each took turns reporting on various aspects of Guatemalan culture. Here are some pictures and video from our meeting...

Rellenitos are a basically sweetened refried beanss wrapped in mashed plantain which are then deep fried and served with cream. Clearly not going to be one of Christa's favourite but Susan didn't mind them!

Jami & Alyssa's turn...

The Williams family gave us information about the geography of Guatemala followed by a topographical map (in cake form) that Mac and Claire made - yummy!!

The flags surrounding the lake represent volcanoes - active volcanoes. We'll get to swim in the lake (Lake Atitlan) and maybe get to hike the volanoes!

Brianna LOVED it - can you tell?!?

Darryn and Lisa explained the religious beliefs of the Guatemalan culture which often includes a mixture of Catholicism and traditional Mayan practices. We'll be there during Semana Santa - Easter Holy Week; we may be able to see some of the processions that occur daily.
Rosemary and Christina gave us a Guatemalan history lesson. We all lined up with letters that spelled out "Chichicastenango Guatemala" with information on the back of each letter.

We learned alot, more than what I've written about here.
Our next official meeting will be March 31st which will involve
packing medical supplies, hygiene kits and craft supplies for the children's ministry and most importantly, the commissioning of
our team. Consider this to be your offical invitation to join us that night - 7:00pm at Grace in room 111.

I am so happy I got to meet so many of you and now I can put names with faces when I pray for your growth, strength and safety. God Bless you all and thank you for keeping my "little girl" safe.
